Preparation for Learning and Work

Whether you’re a school leaver or an adult thinking about a return to education, Preparation for Learning and Work is designed to help you build confidence, develop essential skills and take the right next step for you. 

Who is this course for? Preparation for Learning and Work is ideal if: 

  • You have few or no formal qualifications

  • You are aged 16 years or over

  • You can read and write a full paragraph

  • You're unsure about your next steps in education or work

  • You want to develop your confidence and build a positive learning routine

We welcome students from all backgrounds. Whether you’re a school leaver or an adult returning to education, you’ll be encouraged to explore your next steps from within our supportive learning community.

What we do. On this course we: 

  • Work in small groups to build trust and confidence

  • Encourage creativity, self-reflection and positive thinking

  • Explore the natural world

  • Help you identify your strengths and explore future opportunities

  • Provide guaranteed one-to-one support throughout your journey

What will I learn? The course is designed to help you:

  • Gain the confidence to re-engage with learning

  • Improve communication, digital and teamwork skills

  • Develop a positive mindset and sense of purpose

  • Prepare for progression to further education or employment

You’ll learn across the following subject areas:

  • Communication

  • Enterprise

  • Numeracy

  • Forest and Outdoor Learning

  • Reflection of learning (Adult Achievement Award)

How will I study?

You will attend college for three days each week. Classes are small and supportive, and the college team work closely with every student to ensure a positive and personal learning experience. You will be learning in the classroom and in the natural environment. In addition to classes, there will be a small amount of learning that you can either undertake at home, or from one of the college’s beautiful learning spaces.

How am I assessed?

Assessment is ongoing and designed to help you reflect on your progress. You’ll complete a range of practical tasks and personal learning reflections that demonstrate your development throughout the course, and our experienced staff will support you and help to bring out the very best in your abilities so that you feel confident at every step of your journey.

Am I eligible for this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. If you’re 16 or older and ready to take your next step, we encourage you to apply. The course is open to anyone with the ability to read and write a paragraph and a willingness to engage with new learning experiences and learn outdoors.
