Taking the first steps into further or higher education can be daunting, but at Newbattle we have an established reputation for providing the right support. You will benefit from high quality teaching from tutors who are committed to help you build your confidence and who will encourage you to enjoy the experience.

Through group work, tutorials and individual sessions, you will develop learning skills and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to discuss your progress with tutors. Students often form study groups to work together on projects or on subjects they need to collaborate on.

Students at Newbattle say they like the ‘tutorial method’ of teaching and in Politics, Sociology and History this fits well. Students have to do a good bit of preparation for tutorials and often get together in small groups to prepare for them. It is great preparation for University.

We have a well stocked library and excellent IT facilities. There is also access to a counsellor for those who require it.

At Newbattle, your welfare and happiness are as important to us as your academic success.

Personal Tutors

Each student at Newbattle Abbey College has a personal Guidance tutor whose responsibility it is to make sure students have academic and pastoral support.

Guidance tutors will meet you individually and in your Guidance groups weekly across the year. They will also support you when you are deciding your next steps and will help you prepare your UCAS forms and applications for further study or employment.

Literacy and Numeracy Support

We offer additional individual and group support with maths, reading and writing, and study skills for those who feel they would like to develop their skills in these areas.
