Steeped in over 900 years of Scottish history, Newbattle Abbey offers couples the rare chance to celebrate their wedding in a place shaped by centuries of change. Founded as a Cistercian monastery in the 12th century, the Abbey has welcomed kings, queens and noblemen, is believed to have been the place where the Declaration of Arbroath was drafted, and even houses the baptismal font said to have been used for Mary Queen of Scots.
The 19th‑century Chapel reflects the Abbey’s spiritual heritage, while the Crypt — with its original stone arches and medieval architecture — offers a vivid glimpse into its earliest past.
