LEVEL: HNC

DURATION: 1 year but can be completed part-time over 2 years.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

National Certificate in Horticulture SCQF level 5 recommended to include some level 6 units.

— SVQ3 Horticulture
— City and Guilds Level 6
— A minimum of 1 Scottish Higher at grade C or above or 1 A Level at grade D or above
— A qualification equivalent to any of the above

Applicants with relevant industry experience will also be considered.

PROGRESSION ROUTES:

— Retail horticulture such as garden centres

— Private estates/homes eg National Trust

— Commercial nursery

— Landscaping

— Self-employment

Horticulture HNC

This innovative course is delivered in partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Argyll and will use the beautiful college grounds as a base for practical work.

Taught by specialist and experienced lecturers, this project-based and practical course provides an industry-relevant qualification in commercial horticulture.

Newbattle Abbey College has formed a partnership with UHI Argyll to enable local access to this course. Students will join real-time, online lectures and tutorials with other students from across the country. Practical elements, which make up around 40% of the course, will be undertaken on our estate, supervised by Newbattle staff.

Students will also receive pastoral and learning support from our staff and be part of the Newbattle learning community.
